Age: 34
Where are you from: Jakarta originally
Where you live: Bali, Indonesia.
•I'm a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer. I started to dance when I was five years old. My parents brought me to a dance course to learn Indonesian traditional dance. I started performing on stage when I was 6 years old and since then, I have never stopped dancing.
Dance has built my character, self-confidence, pride, happiness and I can express my feelings even when I feel sad and down. My feelings then become my inspiration to create movement.
I went to a dance company in Jakarta and learned to be a professional dancer for 4 years, and I then studied and trained to get my certificates as a dance teacher. I then moved to Bali to start my life from the very beginning, and to start my dancing career from scratch.
I feel so happy that as a dance teacher, I can help people at any age.
I teach ballet to kids and adults, and I learn so much from them. It makes me happy when I can help them to find their passion and to build self-confidence on stage.
Sometimes adults say "I'm too old to dance" or "is it too late to learn ballet?". No, it's never too late to reach your dream, dance is for everyone and everyone can dance.
I don't like competition. I compete with myself, not others. I prefer to use the word "motivation" rather than "competition".
I am a dreamer. I like to create or make something different from others, and I try my best to make all of my dreams come true. I just created my first performance of my own recently, which was a huge dream of mine. It takes time to find strength, to save money, it takes time to make this and finally, it happened.
•This is the story that I want to rewrite for women...
I have been bullied, felt fear, doubt, and a lot of people have underestimated me. I have been rejected, disrespected from the people around me.... but this has made me grow up and it has taught me who my real friends are.
On the other hand, there are so many people who have helped me, supported me and loved me unexpectedly. I believe that there's a way to find the right path. I want to tell women to "be brave to follow your heart, your passion, your intuition. It will lead you in the right direction. Also, get out of your comfort zone. Never stop believing, never stop praying, and never stop chasing your dream. Show everyone that you can make it all possible.
If you fail, get up and try again. There's no "too late" to do something that you love. If you feel tired, take a rest, take a break but don't quit. You still have time to be more creative. Believe that you can!
•The story I next want to write for myself..
I want to continue to dance, to teach, and to make other performances. I want to inspire women to become performers, and to give the opportunity for everyone to do a performance on stage at any age.
