1. This is who I am in the world:
Ever since I was a child I was making art. From painting to sculpting, to acting, I created something out of nothing with anything I could get my hands on. Originally from Philadelphia, USA, my life has been—in its own way—a work of art. When I started out my creative career as a model, I had no idea where it would take me. Fast forward fifty years and I am content and settled in an amazing eclectic community in Bali, at the heart of it all in Ubud. My art these days finds beauty everywhere. My intention is to bring out the beauty in the layers of every landscape and image with which I work. I have discovered that cultivating an appreciation of what is already around and within me, allows me to access the natural radiance in everything.
My primary inspiration is to create inner peace through art. When I look back to the years I was an activist in the Vietnam war, I can see now that fighting for something takes the focus from creating what you want from within. Peace and beauty go hand in hand.
I feel my work comes through me, not to me. I have learned over many years of creating art, that I am able to create a request even if I'm not familiar with what I'm creating. For me, art is when I step into a mode of free form that even I don't know where it will go.
When I create, all of my creative skills come together to reflect an aspect of each woman's healing and depth. I believe we are all so much deeper than what the surface portrays and I create images that embody the spirit of each subject. My art has been a product of my own healing journey, and every stage and nuance has led me to a different way of expressing divinity. My intention when I work with any subject is to bring out the archetypal energy that is asking for fuller expression in the life of every woman to honor and celebrate where she is on her path. I often feel the process of art itself is a desire to both create beauty in the world and heal what needs to be seen. Art offers us a way to see our own beauty, and my passion lies in helping each woman see the abundant magnificence of who they really are.
2. This is the story that I want to next be written for women:
I hold a deep desire for women to be raised in an atmosphere of appreciation and support so that it is a natural consequence that women embody who they truly are and shape the trajectory of humanity in powerful ways. I believe we are all on a healing journey, one that requires claiming one's own power and ability to do anything our heart desires. The power of sisterhood and recognition must allow each woman to feel free to express exactly who she is. Regardless of social conditioning, where she is from, or the burdens she carries, I aim to reflect each woman's true strength and essence in my art. My vision is a world where women are surrounded by people who encourage them to follow their excitement and truth, knowing that anything and everything is possible.
I see a world coming where the value of the Divine Feminine is finally honored and respected. A world where every woman knows her own power without competing or dimming her own light. Far beyond the constructs of accepted ability, I support women embracing their own beauty, purpose, and passion. I believe I am an early start to the inevitable claiming that women will one day rise to meet their own beauty and worth. My role is to simply reflect this shift as I create images that capture the soul essence and message of every woman.
3. This is the story that I next want to write for myself:
My next focus is creating a home that both nurtures and allows me the space and time to relax deeper and create more. I envision a gorgeous jungle view, and enough space for my many friends and community to gather and visit. Though I continue to enjoy and explore Bali, I feel this next stage of life is about turning within and creating something that I have yet to create and experience myself.
I am very grateful to be doing the work that speaks the most to my heart and that I came here to do. I create pieces I call “Magical Power Talismans” —scenes and images that bring in ancient symbolism, and designs that embody the spirit of each woman. I create the piece to reflect the process that particular woman is on, her mission here on earth, and where she is at currently. It can serve her as a “focusing device”—similar to a vision board—that encourages her every day to embody the person and energy she sees in the picture.
I have an amazing business partner who has helped me co-host successful workshops for women and our next vision is to bring in the wisdom of our last decade together. We intend to host our work internationally, beginning in Africa and around the world. We want our reach to be limitless.
My next chapter is based on sharing my perspective of how this Universe is set up and tools and practices that can help people navigate it. I share this to uplift others and to give them a wider view to appreciate life beyond their day-to-day reality.
I will continue to explore new art mediums and techniques to expand and explore what is possible through my photography and art. I invoke simply the ideal location to do so and the space to bring forth a lifetime of creativity and passionate living.
